Copyright Alliance Celebrates Black History Month 2021

Numerous creative organizations and individuals around the country (and in other parts of the world) celebrate Black History Month from February 1 to February 28 each year, and the Copyright Alliance is thrilled to be among them!

According to, “Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of ‘Negro History Week,’ the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.”

Since 1976, U.S. presidents have dedicated a theme for the month, and the 2021 theme is Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity, which “explores the African diaspora, and the spread of Black families across the United States.”

Check out the resources that we compiled below from across the creative community — including videos, events, blogs, movies, documentaries and more from many of our member organizations — to enable everyone to explore the history and importance of this celebration, and the wealth of creativity of Black Creators, during the month of February 2021!
