100K+ Americans Tell U.S. Elected Officials: ‘Copyright Drives Creativity and Innovation’

March 5, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, the Copyright Alliance sent an Open Letter to elected congressional representatives, senators, and state governors, stressing the importance of copyright protection and urging them to support the creative community.

Signed by more than 100K creators, audience members, fans, and consumers, the letter states that “There is no ‘left’ or ‘right’ when it comes to respecting copyright. Instead, the creative community stands united in support of a copyright system that will continue to make the United States the global leader in the creative arts and the global paradigm for free expression.”

According to Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid, “Copyright-dependent industries and creators not only contribute significantly to our economy, they also help shape our culture through new ideas, music, art, photos, and much more, and deserve to be supported by policymakers. They also deserve the opportunity to earn a living from their creations. In our Open Letter, we remind elected officials that it’s absolutely essential for them to support creators and the rights that protect them and their works.”

The Open Letter can be found here.
