The 2023 World IP Day theme, as determined by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), is Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and CreativityAccording to a statement issued by WIPO, “In 2023, we celebrate the ‘can do’ attitude of women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs around the world and their ground-breaking work. In honor of World IP Day 2023, Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid is pleased to share the following message with the creative and copyright communities, one that speaks to the history of copyright law and intellectual property protections, as well as articulates the importance of this year’s theme as established by the World Intellectual Property Organization.

As we all know, copyright and intellectual property protections benefit societies across the globe by incentivizing creativity and innovation. They also make it possible for the world to enjoy inspiring works of art, music, books, photos, and so much more. And at a time when global economies are experiencing so many new challenges, we need strong and vibrant copyright laws now more than ever to help protect the works of creators who inspire us.

So, as we look toward celebrating World IP Day on April 26, 2023, I’m really pleased that the World Intellectual Property Organization announced this year’s theme as Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity. This theme not only fosters the promotion of inclusion and diversity in all areas of copyright and for all types of creators; it also provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate the many outstanding women creators, entrepreneurs, and others who have enriched our daily lives through their works and creative accomplishments.

By dedicating their intelligence, diligence, innovation, and creativity toward the creation of copyrighted works, women across the world are making the future better for all of us living in today’s global community. So, again, we proudly highlight the contributions of countless trailblazing women around the globe. And as we do so, we strive to raise awareness about the importance of women participating throughout the copyright ecosystem—both today and in the future. Lastly, I, along with the entire Copyright Alliance team, wish you all the best for a Happy World IP Day 2023, and a very successful year ahead!
