Copyright Alliance Celebrated World IP Day/Week 2022

Copyright and Youth: Creating a Better Future | World IP Day 2022

CHECK OUT OUR WORLD IP DAY PANEL VIDEO!

From April 25-29, the Copyright Alliance celebrated World IP Day (WIPD) by joining our members, partners, and countless creators and organizations around the world to mark the occasion by amplifying blogs and videos, hosting virtual events, and much more—all designed to celebrate the fact that IP helps the global arts scene to flourish and enables the innovation that drives human progress.

The 2022 WIPD theme, as determined by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), was IP and Youth: Innovating for a Better Future. According to a statement issued by WIPO, Across the globe, young people are stepping up to innovation challenges, using their energy and ingenuity, their curiosity and creativity to steer a course towards a better future. This year, the World Intellectual Property Day 2022’s theme focuses on IP and Youth innovating for a Better Future. We [will] explore how these innovative, energetic and creative minds are driving positive change.

As we look back at our 2022 celebrations, check out the content below as we remember how essential—perhaps now more than ever before–that IP protections are to inspiring creativity and innovation in young people!

In honor of WIPD 2022, Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid shared the following message with the creative and copyright communities, one that spoke to the history of copyright law and intellectual property protections, as well as articulates their continued importance today.

As everyone knows, copyright and intellectual property protections benefit society by incentivizing creativity and innovation. They also make it possible for the world to enjoy incredible works of art, music, books, and so much more! And at a time when economies around the world are experiencing new challenges, including continuing to recover from the perils of an unprecedented pandemic, we need strong and vibrant copyright law now more than ever. In the spirit of celebrating World IP Day, I’m pleased that our 2022 initiatives will highlight the tremendous and broad-ranging contributions being made by young people as a result of their ingenuity, technology, innovations, creations, copyrighted works, and by making the future better for all of us living in today’s global community. We will also highlight our Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLAs) partners around the country, organizations that work as strong advocates for creators and copyright protections, day in and day out. Lastly, I, along with the entire Copyright Alliance team, wish you all the best for a Happy World IP Day 2022, and a very successful year ahead! – Keith Kupferschmid, CEO, Copyright Alliance
