Copyright Alliance Issues Statement in Honor of World IP Day 2024

Washington, DC—On April 26, 2024, the Copyright Alliance will celebrate World IP Day (WIPD) as a reminder of intellectual property’s critical role in encouraging creativity and innovation. The 2024 WIPD theme, as determined by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), is IP and the SDGs: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity. In honor of World IP Day, Copyright Alliance Keith Kupferschmid released the following statement:

“Copyright and intellectual property protections benefit societies across the globe by incentivizing creativity and innovation. They also make it possible for the world to enjoy inspiring works of art, music, books, photos, and so much more. And at a time when global economies are experiencing many new challenges, we need strong and vibrant copyright laws now more than ever to help protect the works of creators both today and tomorrow.

“As we look toward celebrating World IP Day on April 26, 2024, I’m pleased that the World Intellectual Property Organization announced that this year’s theme is IP and the SDGs: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity. The theme provides the perfect opportunity to recognize that creators are flourishing and succeeding today with the help of copyright protections, while also helping to build a stronger creative economy for the decades ahead.

“By applying their intelligence, diligence, innovation, and creativity toward creating copyrighted works today, artists, photographers, designers, game developers, and all types of creators across the world can simultaneously make the future better for those who will live in tomorrow’s global community. They will do this through fostering continued job growth, perpetuating a strong creative economy, and continuing to grow the arts, all of which are supported through copyright protections.
