Washington, DC – September 21, 2022 –The Copyright Alliance is thrilled to announce that on September 19, the Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation (IPOEF) announced that its first ever 2022 Inspiration Award will be presented to Copyright Alliance Vice President of Legal Policy and Copyright Counsel Terrica Carrington. The 2022 Inspiration Award recognizes Carrington for her significant contributions in promoting and championing copyright rights for members of underrepresented communities.

Carrington joined the Copyright Alliance in 2016 and has become a proven advocate of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the copyright community. Her advocacy work has touched upon key issues, including the enactment and implementation of the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act (CASE Act), modernization of the U.S. Copyright Office, and improvements to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). In addition, Carrington testified before the House Judiciary Committee on the efficacy of Section 512 of the Copyright Act in 2020.

She has also played a significant role in supporting access to justice for individuals and small businesses seeking to enforce their copyrights; spearheads the Copyright Alliance’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the copyright community; and serves on the Copyright Society’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Among her many roles, Carrington is a Practitioner in Residence at the Center for Intellectual Property x Innovation Policy and sits on the Copyright Society’s Board of Trustees.

Before joining the Copyright Alliance, Carrington held positions at the Center for the Protection of Intellectual Property, National Geographic, and WYZ Girl Entertainment Consulting and draws from those experiences by doing volunteer work with the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA).

In commenting on the award, Carrington stated “I’m honored and grateful to be recognized as the first Inspiration Award recipient. I look forward to continuing my work in fostering diversity and inclusion in copyright and promoting IP rights for underrepresented communities.”

According to Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid, “There is no one more steadfast and accomplished in their work for diversity and inclusion in copyright as Terrica Carrington. We’re incredibly proud to have her on our team and I look forward to celebrating her well-earned acceptance of the 2022 Inspiration Award.”
