Creator Spotlight with THADONN

THADONN

For this week’s creator spotlight, we would like you to meet recording artist THADONN!

What was the inspiration behind becoming a creator? What do you enjoy most about the creative process?

My pain was my initial inspiration to become a creator. I was going through a lot in my life at the time and didn’t have any way to truly express myself. When I started making music it felt like my escape from reality. A way to relieve all of the stressful things going on in my life. What I enjoy most about being a creator is the freedom. When I make music, I feel like there are no limits to what I can achieve.

What is the biggest misconception about your creative work?

I think the biggest misconception about being a recording artist is that it’s easy. I think it takes a lot of skill to be good and a lot of courage to do. It takes tons and tons of practice and the acceptance of failure along the way.

When did you first become aware of copyright and why?

I first became aware of copyright maybe four or five months after I began making music in 2018. I would watch a lot of YouTube videos on what it took to be an artist and that is something I eventually stumbled across.

What’s the best advice you would give fellow creators about copyright and how to protect their work?

Being a creator is a beautiful thing, but beauty isn’t law. Sometimes in life you will meet people who will try to take credit for your work so it’s important that you copyright it. This is the best way to protect yourself if anyone does attempt to [steal your work].

What is your biggest copyright-related challenge?

I would say that my biggest copyright related challenge is the cost. I create often and when I do, I have to pay an $85 fee to process my work. Over time this has built up to a pretty big number. But it’s definitely important, so I’m sure to copyright everything I create.
