Washington, DC—Today, Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid issued the following statement regarding the introduction of The Foreign Anti-Digital Piracy Act (FADPA) by Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA):
According to Kupferschmid, “The Copyright Alliance thanks Zoe Lofgren for her commitment to protecting copyright owners by combatting foreign-based commercial scale piracy websites and online services.
“In recent years, foreign-based digital piracy websites and services have come to represent some of the most egregious online infringers, causing massive harm to copyright owners and creators, and in turn harming the U.S. economy, employment, and trade, and endangering everyday citizens who access such websites.
“We appreciate Representative Lofgren’s work in addressing this important issue with the introduction of The Foreign Anti-Digital Piracy Act (FADPA), (H.R. 791) — a bill to amend title 17 of United States Code to provide for no-fault judicial blocking orders against foreign piracy sites, and encourage her continued collaboration with House Judiciary Committee IP Subcommittee Chairman, Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA), who we commend for his continued strong support of the copyright community and for beginning a process within the IP Subcommittee to address foreign-based digital piracy.
“We look forward to working with Representative Lofgren and Chairman Issa, as well as with other policymakers and stakeholders, to ensure that legislation that enables copyright owners to block foreign-based commercial scale piracy sites becomes law during the 119th Congress.”
