Creator Spotlight with Singer/Songwriter Nedislav Dragnev

This week we’d like to introduce you to Nedislav Dragnev, a young performer and songwriter. He became popular in Europe and Asia and has accomplished impressive achievements in global entertainment, performing in shows and commercial projects. He has worked on globally recognized projects and forged collaborations with celebrities from different global entertainment formats. He has been promoted as a top teen star by National Geographic.

What was the inspiration behind becoming a creator? What do you enjoy the most about the creative process?

I started with songwriting and performing music when I was very young. I felt the world needed me and my art. I started doing it and I felt inspired to become different from other people. That’s how I was feeling and I believe my inner voice never lied to me. I enjoy working with new people, with new professionals, to have new experiences, and to be surprised by learning something new. I just love that.

Can you talk through your creative process? How long does it take? Does everything you produce make money?

It depends on the project. I have produced music for hours, for days, and sometimes for months. And no, not every project I produce makes a lot of money, but every project I produce generates solid portions of digital assets. This means it has a chance to become popular.

When did you first become aware of copyright, and why?

As I already mentioned, I started my career as a performer and music creator when I was very young. I was 24 when I learned about copyright protection and I am still working on copyright protecting all of my work.

Have you ever experienced copyright infringement and, if so, how has it affected you personally and financially?

Yes, I have experienced copyright infringements including issues with fair remuneration for writers and artists. It has taken solid amounts of my potential income and, in fact, I am still really struggling with finding relief from infringement.

What do you do when you encounter someone stealing something you’ve invested your intellect, time, and money too?

Well, I get angry and I am trying to learn how to deal with such events in the most constructive way.

What is the best piece of advice that you would give other creators in your field about copyright and how to protect themselves?

I would advise everyone who shares their creations with the world not to release their works until they are registered. Doing so gives you proof of ownership, and it is a big advantage.
