January 16, 2020

Washington, DC – The Copyright Alliance, which represents the copyright interests of over 1.8 million individual creators and over 13,000 organizations across the spectrum of copyright disciplines, announced the addition of Adobe, News Corp, ASCRL and SONA as its newest members.

Founded in 1982, Adobe is changing the world through digital experiences. Only Adobe gives everyone – from emerging artists to global brands – everything they need to design and deliver exceptional digital experiences. “Strong, common sense copyright policy promotes innovation and creativity. That is why we are so excited to join the leading industry organization advocating for consumers, creatives and businesses,” said J. Scott Evans, Director of Trademark, Adobe. “I am also happy to lend my time and expertise as a new member of the Board of Directors and look forward to the support Adobe can bring to this organization.”

News Corp is a global, diversified media and information services company focused on creating and distributing authoritative and engaging content and other products and services. The company comprises businesses across a range of media, including: news and information services, subscription video services in Australia, book publishing and digital real estate services.

American Society for Collective Rights Licensing (ASCRL) was established by authors and rights holders to collect payments for visual works and distribute those payments to ASCRL members. As a non-profit, ASCRL works to secure a revenue stream from secondary rights and reprographic funds for authors and copyright owners of visual works.

Songwriters of North America (SONA) was founded in 2015 as a non-profit trade organization that advocates for the protection of songs and songwriters in the digital music marketplace. Over the past few years, SONA has played a pivotal role in helping to craft and pass the Music Modernization Act (MMA) -a landmark copyright bill that helps ensure that music creators are paid more fairly. According to SONA Executive Director Michelle Lewis, “Songwriters of North America (SONA) is thrilled to join the venerable Copyright Alliance in its mission to project copyright and fight for creators and their work. We are honored to join this championship team and look forward to contributing to great accomplishments together.”

According to Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid, “Although very diverse in their businesses and initiatives, all of these organizations have two things in common – they or their members/constituents rely on copyright protections for their livelihoods and they all bring a wealth of copyright expertise and experiences to the table. As 2020 gets underway, we look forward to working with them as we continue to fulfill our mission of protecting creator rights and educating people about the importance and value of copyright.”
