Copyright Alliance & Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLA) Organizations Celebrate World IP Day, April 23-28

In recognition of World Intellectual Property Day (WIPD) on Wednesday, April 26, 2018, the Copyright Alliance in partnership with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLA) organizations — will celebrate by hosting a series of events across the U.S. during the week of April 23-28.

According to Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid, “World Intellectual Property Day is observed on April 26 each year as a means of fostering an understanding of intellectual property and celebrating what it means to the creator and copyright communities. This year, we’re thrilled to collaborate with outstanding VLAs across the country to host a variety of events focused on Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity.” Kupferschmid continued by adding “We invite everyone to visit our Twitter page for updates on this year’s WIPD events, awards, blogs, and videos by industry and government leaders.”

Participating VLA organizations include:

Arts and Business Council of Greater Nashville; California Lawyers for the Arts; Chicago Lawyers for the Creative Arts; Springboard for the Arts; St Louis Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts; Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts; The Ella Project; Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLANY); Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts

Many of these organizations will also be honoring a female creator or creator advocate from their local area, in keeping with WIPO’s 2018 theme.

Events will encompass the following:

  • An expert panel consisting of New York’s top entertainment and intellectual property attorneys, will discuss issues related to copyright law.
  • A presentation and Q&A on how to copyright your works.
  • Numerous Facebook Live events that will enable creators to submit their copyright and IP-related questions to attorneys and other experts.
