The Kernochan Center for Law, Media and the Arts at Columbia Law School and the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology will co-host a bi-coastal symposium to mark the 50th anniversary of the Copyright Act of 1976. The first event was held at Berkeley in April 2026, which examined the origins of the Copyright Act, its central purposes, and the challenges technology has imposed on it. The second event will be held at Columbia Law School where participants will learn about how public and private institutions impacted the 1976 Act and examine the roles of the Copyright Office, Congress, the judiciary, and more in shaping the Act.
