ITIF and DCA Event on Foreign Online Piracy: How the Courts Can Protect American IP

The Information Technology & Innovation Foundation (ITIF) and the Digital Citizens Alliance (DCA) will host an in-person lunchtime policy forum to discuss “how U.S. courts can authorize targeted website blocking to disrupt foreign pirate operations.” Drawing on the best international practices, the discussion will explore how blocking orders can be implemented safely and effectively to protect intellectual property and promote legal content without threatening free expression. It will also feature remarks from policymakers, legal experts, and industry leaders, featuring Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) as the keynote speaker; Rodrigo Balbontin, ITIF, Associate Director of Trade, IP, and Digital Technology Governance; Michael D. Smith, J. Erik Jonsson Professor of Information Technology, Carnegie Mellon University; Kristina Milbourn, Head of Litigation, Rogers; Stefan Sergot, Director of Legal Enforcement, The Premier League; and Tom Galvin, Executive Director, Digital Citizens Alliance (moderator).
