On June 9, 2022, Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) sent a letter to Kathi Vidal, Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and Shira Perlmutter, Register of Copyrights and Director of the U.S. Copyright Office, requesting that the two agencies conduct a joint study on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the impact and application to intellectual property rights. The letter requested that the agencies conclude the study by June 8.
