Deadline to Submit Comments to USCO Regarding NOI on Copyright Protections for Publishers
November 26, 2021 All day
On October 12, the U.S. Copyright Office published a notice of inquiry (NOI) in connection with its study to evaluate current Copyright Protections for Publishers, per the request of Congress. According to the NOI, “among other issues, the Office will consider the effectiveness of publishers’ existing rights in news content, including under the provisions of title 17 of the U.S. Code, as well as other federal and state laws; whether additional protections are desirable or appropriate; the possible scope of any such new protections, including how their beneficiaries could be defined; and how any such protections would interact with existing rights, exceptions and limitations, and international treaty obligations.” Comments are due by Friday, November 26. The Office will also hold a virtual roundtable discussion via Zoom on December 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. Those who wish to participate in the roundtable were asked to submit a request by November 12. The Office is soliciting a second round of comments on this issue, which are due on January 5, 2022.
