Washington, DC—The Copyright Alliance, which represents the copyright interests of over two million individual creators and more than 15,000 organizations across the spectrum of copyright disciplines, announced the addition of a new member —The New York Times.
The New York Times is a Pulitzer-, Oscar-, and Emmy-winning international media organization covering domestic, national, and international news, and publishing opinion pieces, investigative reports, and reviews. As one of the longest-running independent news outlets in the United States, The Times has a leading position in digital subscriptions, with over 11 million subscribers as of 2025.
In a statement about becoming a member, Diane Brayton, The Times’s Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, noted, “In a time when many tech companies are routinely violating copyright protections to boost their valuations by billions, the work of the Copyright Alliance couldn’t be more crucial. America’s creators across all industries are at risk, and The Times is resolute in standing with them as we fight to ensure that the historic protections that have helped fuel America’s economy and influence around the world are enforced.”
According to Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid, “We are thrilled to have The New York Times join as a member during a time that’s critical for the copyright landscape. Like so many others, The New York Times relies on copyright to protect its journalistic and other content and brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the table. We look forward to working with The Times as we continue to fulfill our mission of educating and advocating on the importance and value of copyright.”
