Copyright Alliance Commends Supporters of Orrin G. Hatch-Bob Goodlatte Music Modernization Act as It’s Enacted into Law
October 11, 2018STATEMENT
Washington, D.C. In a statement issued today, the Copyright Alliance commended all who supported the Orrin G. Hatch-Bob Goodlatte Music Modernization Act as it was signed into law by President Trump.
According to CEO Keith Kupferschmid, “The Copyright Alliance appreciates the President signing the MMA into law today, and commends and thanks members of Congress, numerous Copyright Alliance members, and friends of the music community for their support of this critical legislation.
“It’s truly remarkable for any cause or bill to bring everyone together in a bipartisan fashion, especially a bill as complex and lengthy as this one. But that’s just what happened with the Music Modernization Act. The willingness to compromise, and work with others who may have competing or different interests, in the singular effort to get this important copyright legislation passed was laudable and inspiring.
“As everyone familiar with this legislation knows, it’s a huge win for hundreds of thousands of music creators across the country, making it easier for them to earn a fair living through their creativity. Today is a new day for U.S. music creators, as well as for music fans, as it represents music copyright law being heralded into the digital age, and an acknowledgment that those with differing views on important copyright issues can come together to find a way forward.”
