Copyright Alliance Submits Statement to Senate Rules Committee in Support of Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act

September 26, 2018

STATEMENT

Washington, D.C. In conjunction with today’s Senate Rules Committee hearing, Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid submitted a statement supporting passage of the Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act (S. 1010/H.R. 1695).

According to Kupferschmid’s statement, “Changing the appointment process, and providing the Register with the ability to discharge her duties effectively, is an important component for modernization of the Copyright Office. It will help ensure that the Register has the voice and the resources needed to implement policy, manage its operations, and organize its information technology in a way that brings the Copyright Office into the 21st century.

“While the urgency to address the appointment of the Register is new, the recognition that this change is needed is not. We have long advocated in support of the Register being Presidentially appointed with the advice and consent of the Senate. The time is now to make that change.”
