Copyright Alliance Commends Senate Judiciary Committee on Unanimous Passage of Music Modernization Act

Washington, D.C. Following today’s Senate Judiciary Committee passage of the Music Modernization Act, S. 2823 (as amended)by a unanimous voice vote, Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid initiated the following statement regarding the committee’s actions.
According to Kupferschmid, “The Copyright Alliance thanks and commends the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee for passing the Music Modernization Act (as amended), legislation that is essential to helping music creators across the industry get paid more equitably.
“Today’s actions by the Senate Judiciary Committee continue to demonstrate the tremendous bipartisan support for this bill in Congress and amongst a diversity of stakeholders and industries. The bill has yet to receive a single ‘no’ vote in either the House or Senate, and continues to enjoy strong support from the music and technology industries, as well as from hundreds of thousands of creators and countless other friends of the creative community across the United States.
“S. 2823 combines the previously introduced Music Modernization Act (MMA), CLASSICS Act, and the AMP Act, and will result in the most significant improvement of music copyright law in more than a generation, making it easier for creators across the music industry to earn a fair living through their creativity.
“We look forward to this critical legislation being promptly considered and passed by the full Senate.”
