There is much more to copyright than most people recognize. As a legal tool, copyright enables creators to make choices. As a policy matter, its exceptions and limitations ensure that those choices likewise benefit communities. Intellectual property and creative media are also unquestionably vital components of the U.S. and global economies. Consequently, we believe all citizens have an interest in protecting both the cultural and commercial value of these works. Moreover, a society that protects the voice of the creative community, protects the sanctity of speech itself. Hence, we view copyright from a variety of perspectives -- legal, intellectual, economic, and civil.
